Derek Shepherd's sister
Dereks syster Amelia Shepherd, som vi kan se i Private Practice, kommer till SGMWH i säsong 7, avsnitt 3.
Derek har inte besvarat hennes telefon samtal och därför beslutar hon sig för att hälsa på sin bror.
“Amelia goes to visit Derek in the third episode of Grey’s Anatomy," Rhimes reveals, adding that in the finale, "Derek got shot and he hasn’t been returning her phone calls."
"He’s never returned her phone calls. And what I love about this particular episode is that it really illuminates Derek Shepherd
. Remember: Derek’s father was shot when they were kids - something that both Amelia and Derek witnessed."
"For both of them, Derek’s shooting brings up all these memories of that. You also get to see the two Shepherd neurosurgeons operating together, which I think is badass.”

Derek is going to jail.
Clearly, the aftermath from the tragic shooting spree within the halls of Seattle Grace will not be quickly shaken off by the surgeons. But some of the spoilers and rumors running wild online are leaving fans concerned for the welfare of their favorite characters.
Regarding the Derek bit, EW's Michael Ausiello offers more insight on how McDreamy ends up behind bars: In the season premiere, Derek gets arrested for being a speed addict.
As in he feels the need for speed. Behind the wheel. Is art imitating life for Patrick Dempsey? “[Derek] is doing a lot of speeding - in a car, not with drugs,” Shonda Rhimes says.
“He’s on an exuberant high, that adrenaline rush one gets after facing death and surviving. It’s something we hadn’t explored before - the idea that when something bad happens you go to a place of, ‘Now I can do anything.’ Meredith, however, sees his behavior as dangerous.”
Ausiello notes, correctly, that this is just one of two "time bombs" hanging over the couple this season. When we pick up the action, two months have passed since Gary Clark shot up the hospital and Meredith has still not told him about the pregnancy and miscarriage.
That will certainly be interesting to watch play out, as will the baby situation with Callie and Arizona. On that subject, Rhimes offers the following teaser:
“Will there be a baby right away? No. Will Callie’s turnaround [about children] stick? Yes.”
How will Callie and Arizona move forward? Will Derek slow the heck down - and if he finds out about the pregnancy, can he and Meredith work through it?
McDreamy - Still shaken up.
It looks like the aftermath of the tragic, stunning sixth season finale will not blow over quickly on Grey's Anatomy. The doctors will understandably be affected in many ways.
Here's how one major figure will be effected, according to EW's Michael Ausiello:
"Even though nearly two months will have passed since the shooting rampage, Derek will still be in pretty bad shape when the season starts. And I’m not talking physically."
Two months later and he's still having a hard time? It's not hard to believe, but still sad for Derek. Will he be sitting down with the new shrink? Might be a good idea.
First, it sounds like he'll have to come up with bail money, however.

Looks like troubled times ahead for McDreamy.
Ausiello continues: "A major character will be sent directly to jail by the end of the episode. Hint: This person has already been name-checked in this week’s [column]."

As predicted, an all-Shepherd crossover is in the works at Shondaland.
Grey's Anatomy's Derek (Patrick Dempsey) and Private Practice's Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) will be repairing their relationship in the upcoming season of Grey's.
Caterina, who was just promoted to series regular on Private Practice, will appear in the third episode of Grey's this season, Shonda Rhimes confirmed to TV Guide.
The premise is simple: Amelia Shepherd goes to Seattle to reconcile with her brother, Derek. The two Shepherds have not been on speaking terms since Amelia turned to drugs while grieving the death of her father, who was shot and killed in front of her and Derek.
Derek and Amelia will reunite this fall.
"Family is family," Scorsone says. "Regardless of the strife and tension and drama between the family members, there's a connection that is so deep. Obviously Amelia has a lot of emotion surrounding Derek and that relationship and all the things they've been through together."
In an interesting twist, Amelia will be reluctant to head to Seattle to see her brother, though she'll get a supportive push from none other than Addison (Kate Walsh) to reconcile.
"There's a lot of unresolved emotions surrounding that whole relationship. Everyone can relate to that fear of confronting situations that may result in rejection," says Scorsone.
